Only 3% of all water on Earth is freshwater.
Water is our most precious resource. We can't live without it. There's no substitute for it. And there's only so much of it to go round.
Water scarcity – not having enough to meet demand – is one of the biggest challenges we face. Today, nearly two billion people live in areas at risk from severe water scarcity, while two-thirds of the world’s population face water shortages for at least one month each year. Growing populations, increasing consumption and climate change will only make the problem worse.
More than ever, we need healthy freshwater environments.
We partner with government, civil society organizations, public and private sector partners and research institutions to help people recognize the river's system health as the cornerstone of sustainable socio-economic development and that when well managed, the river supports thriving freshwater ecosystems and more resilient livelihoods.
